Blogger of the Month- August Part 1...Did you know?

Check out this video by Karl Fisch.

Wow, think about it. What shift are we talking about here? What does this mean for us as teachers? How can we prepare our students for this? How can we prepare ourselves?

Please join the discussion.

Wow. A mind-blowing perspective on the future. So what does it entail for education? Well, I'm not sure, but to quote Janelle, I am pretty sure "it doesn't involve filling in a bubble."

I have to say I am worried about the brain drain in our culture. Just to cite an example, when my husband was geting his master's in electrical engineering at A&M ten years ago, out of the 73 graduate students in the dept., 3 were Caucasian males (including my husband), 1 African American male, aND 1 Caucasian female. The rest of the students were from Asia. I am not sure where we are failing our kids.... but we are. It's not just the schools. however. It must have something to do with the society at large. Any ideas?
Anyway, the video inspired me to continue to keep up with technology for as long as I remain in the classroom.

    Di,

I have the same concerns. When I go to conferences, it is alarming how far behind the US is in terms of technology... where let's face it, the heft of jobs require these digital skills. Have we gotten to comfortable and complacent in our status as a country?

I'm with you. We need to continue to make ourselves more marketable in order for our students to be the same.

Let's keep this Tech and Literacy mission alive and kickin'!

Wow, is right. I find that we are not ahead of the curve, the curve just keeps getting steeper. Why are our educational systems creating an abyss for our leaders, teachers, thinkers of tomorrow?

Unless we worry about our learners and their native language of technology, we will be leaving our country farther and farther behind.

Technology should be the expectation not the perk.

Nicely stated in the last line... I would also say that technology is a requirement. We do not have a choice and the more people think we do, the more we (and our students) will fall behind.

Fascinating information. I have to admit, it all makes me feel a little overwhelmed, but I am committed to incorporating more technology into my class this year. I think that as I do this, I will get better and better at it and be able to do more and more. At least that is the theory..... Thanks for the inspiration and for all the support from the BWP.
