Tragic events are very hard to cope with; not only for adults, but expecially for children.

The tragic of 911 has been scarred in my heart for life. I had a view of ground zero once when flying over Manhattan to land at LaGuardia. I was horrifying. I saw a big, black hole that had swallowed part of the city. Although I have visited NY many times after 911, I've not been able to visit Manhattan. I empathize with Katrina victims and feel that the NWP did a GREAT thing for these children. Way to go!

Kudos to the members of the Bluebonnet Writing Project for their response to the children affected by Katrina. It always amazes me how children are more resiliant than we adults and seem to recover from tragic events more quickly, especially when given tools they can easily use.

The lessons created for the Helping Kids Cope Kits were in an easy format to follow and implement giving all of the information and material needed. The goals and objectives were clearly stated, and the procedures would be easy to implement. Giving kids a choice of how to respond is important for their growth as writers, and in this case, it gives them a means of healing as well.

Once again, kudos to the members of the Bluebonnet Writing Project for their thoughtful gift to Katrina's Kids.
